For over 10 years, it has been the vision of Bishop John O. Ford, Sr., Prelate of the Nebraska Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ, to provide educational opportunities to the members by offering college and trade and technical school scholarships to further their education. Continuing education has been at the forefront of his vision and is evident by awarding over $50,000 in scholarships since its conception. Funding initially was created by Bishop Ford’s passion to promote higher education and learning, he started the scholarship account with his own personal contribution at a local credit union.  His desire was to recognize students for their achievements. Releasing that college is not for everyone, last year Ford also recognizes the achievements of those who experience comes from trade and technical school as well, furthering education with degrees or certifications.

On Sunday, May 20,2012 at 4:00 pm in the evening, the Nebraska Jurisdiction will host its annual Bishop Scholarship Centennial Partner’s Rally to be held at Joy of Life Ministries COGIC, 6401 North 56^th, Omaha, NE., host pastor, Pastor Eric Butler. We are blessed to have as our guest speaker for this event, Dr. Fay M. Butler of Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Butler currently serves as the Director of Student Engagement at LaGuardia Community College, City University of New York. She has made great strides in the field of education by holding positions as Director of Admissions at The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education/City University of New York Medical School, City University of New York to Pre-College Counselor at Boys Harbor College Awareness Program, New York, New York. Holding several graduate degrees from Columbia University, an Ed.D, -Higher Education Administration, a M.Ed. - Student Personnel Administration and a M.A., Student Personnel Administration.

In ministry, Dr. Butler is the Founder and Pastor of Upper Room International Ministries COGIC, Brooklyn, N.Y. since July 2011. Allowing God to bless the ministry, it has grown tremendously through faith and love for God’s people.
